Kefir is one of the most amazing and powerful addition to my health that I have so far experienced. I stopped taking it for about 6 months or so when I was travelling a lot, I soon started getting every flu and cold that anyone had. When I started drinking kefir again this quickly reversed. Kefir is easy to make, easier than yogurt as there is no need to heat the milk. More information on the amazing health benefits of kefir here.

Simply add the kefir grains to the milk, allow to stand overnight and then strain out the grains, drink the remaining liquid and add more milk to the grains. You can flavor your kefir in various ways, add it to a smoothie, drink as is and many other things.

I sell dried kefir grains as this is the best way to ship them. The best way to refresh the grains is to just use a minimal amount of milk, allow to sit overnight and strain the next night, add more milk and repeat this process 3 days. The cultured milk the first couple nights might not be worth drinking, but it will soon be going strong. I have had this culture for 7 years, it is very strong and healing.

I used to give away kombucha and kefir cultures, but I have found that some people will have more respect for their cultures if they have put some money into it, they will also treat them better. The kefir cultures also help to support the Hella Delicious website and all the information we provide and hope to continue to provide! Please let us know if you have extra kefir grains you would like to donate to our cause 🙂

Can one use anything else other than milk to make kefir?

Yes you can use pretty much anything, nut milk, coconut milk, rice milk, soy milk etc. The only thing is that the kefir grains may get exhausted after a while and need to be refreshed by putting them back in some kind of dairy milk again for a while.
