Here’s a link to a short 14 minute video about a little radio station in one of the most remote corners of the world, West Papua in Indonesia. Although the world’s largest gold mine is located in West Papua the indigenous people are treated as second class citizens on their own land.
This inspiring story of a micro-hydro system creating electricity which powers this remote radio station, Radio Pikon Ane. Pikon Ane is a traditional musical instrument. The radio station was set up in 2007 and has helped the communities to organize their education, farming and gives health tips. It is also a lovely video to get a look at the beautiful scenery of this mountainous island, and a glimpse into the lives of the local people.
