Vancouver Island

On a quick trip to Vancouver Island we stopped in Ucleulet, Port Alberni and Nanaimo. Learned an interesting fact about Port Alberni (a 30 foot tsunami hit it in the 1950s). It is a strange place because it is a deep port to the Pacific Ocean even though it is more towards the Eastern side of the island. It is also called the fishing capital of the North or some such thing, because of the fantastic fishing– both salt water and fresh water–in the area.
Also we met a bear and some eagles, a variety of lovely plants, lakes and rivers. There is still a few tiny spots of wilderness left in the world.
