CannaButter Recipe

Variations on this recipe have been around for a while. Basically, keep the temperature of the infusion low. Keep an eye on your butter to make sure it doesn’t boil. If it gets too hot, add an ice cube or cold water to cool it down. Stir it every so often to make sure it isn’t burning.

Use organic butter for your medical marijuana cannabutter as agro-chemicals become concentrated in industrial farmed dairy products. Amounts are variable depending on the quality and quantity of your ingredients, but these are the ratios that are commonly used:

  • 1 pound butter
  • 2-4 c water
  • 1 oz medical marijuana leaf, fine ground

Method:
Heat the butter and water in a crock pot so the butter begins to melt. Grind the medical marijuana up into a very fine powder and add it to the crock pot. Turn the pot to low and stir it every so often, make sure it doesn’t boil. If you are using lots of a low quality marijuana you may want to add more water to cover the mixture and evenly heat it.

This mixture should be steeped for 3 or more hours, just be sure it doesn’t get too hot. When you are done, pour it into cheesecloth and allow it to strain, when it has cooled wring it out until as much of the butter is extracted as possible. Place the liquid into the fridge and allow to cool, the butter will separate from the water.

Remove the butter, portion it and freeze it in blocks to keep it fresh.
