Special Committee on Cosmetic Pesticides
The Canadian Cancer Society is pleased the Provincial Government is taking steps towards banning cosmetic pesticides. The Special Committee on Cosmetic Pesticides, made up of MLAs, is planning on conducting province wide consultations to investigate and issue recommendations on the elimination of the unnecessary use of the chemicals. Spokesperson for the society, Kerensa Medhurst, says they have been working a long time to bring this issue to the attention of the government.
“The Canadian Cancer Society is very concerned about the cosmetic use of pesticides, which are substances used to control weeds, insects, animals or fungi,” says Medhurst, “they’ve been linked to negative health and environmental impacts and there’s a growing body of evidence linking pesticide exposure to both childhood and adults cancers.”
British Columbians can participate by completing an online questionnaire or by sending the committee a written submission or audio file. To access the questionnaire, or for more info here. The call for public input closes December 16th.
