The gardeners of Vancouver BC create stunning gardens full of color. Gardens in this city have become a synthesis of the many cultures that have come together and now live side by side, sharing seeds and garden tips. These are a selection of some of my favorite flowers.
Yarrow, Vetch, Ox-eye Daisy, Plantain, Milkweed, Thistle, Joe Pie Weed, Indian Pipe, Bluet, Rose and many more potent and helpful herbs abound in the alpine meadows of the famous pristine Catskills of New York.
Having the opportunity to get to know these friendly herbs in this wild environment has been really helpful in understanding how the healing properties — like the volatile oils and vitamin and mineral content — can be more or less potent depending on the earth they are grown in. Growing up in the harsh contrary conditions of long freezing winters and wild warm storms of the summer have made these herbs strong.
Salves and tinctures I make from them leave a lasting impression on everyone who uses them.

This dish is known in Myanmar as Bachelor’s Chicken Curry. Traditionally young men would steal the chicken and other ingredients if hunger overtook them while out on a romp. In their haste to cook the meal over an impromptu fire, garlic cloves were pounded and thrown in, skin and all.
On occasion certain young men might have been known to add a bit of marijuana* to the simmering mix, resulting in great amusement and laughter from all who consumed this addicting combination of flavors.
