Occupy Student Debt – Refuse to Pay

I am very excited to see this movement. There is so much student debt in the US at the moment that even if a fraction of the students came together to stop paying their student debt it would have a huge effect on the economy. Those in debt actually have a huge power here and they are finally wising up to how they can throw their weight around and get some of their demands met. We can grab the economy by the tail and give it a good shake and make the politicians sit up and listen. I fully agree that education should be free and of good quality. I have been waiting for this idea to catch on. As we have seen, certain people will only listen to money, or the threat of the removal of a source of money. The excessive crack down by educational institutions of the Occupy Movement was the last straw. Their true character has been fully revealed.

I am very glad to see this debt peonage issue finally getting more attention, but we still need to spread the word. The sooner we get to 1 million signatures the sooner we can get the ball in our court. Please sign to show your support and share this with everyone you know, also, check out this excellent interview:

Literacy for Stupidification

Literacy for Stupidification

Spending time in Burma, I have seen this type of education in effect in the most basic manner possible. Children are generally made to sit on stools, still as boards. They spend hours reciting things, sometimes in English, with no knowledge of what they are saying. This is not authentic education, w ...

Here's a link to a short 14 minute video about a little radio station in one of the most remote corners of the world, West Papua in Indonesia. Although the world's largest gold mine is located in West Papua the indigenous people are treated as second class citizens on their own land. This inspiri ...

American Dream is American Nightmare for College Grads

Recently I got a comment on my post about the Student Loan Swindle from a very creative and interesting thinker who is living through this very situation herself. She has been homeless as a result and yet she has realised this is a bigger issue that many people are facing. Instead of accepting the c ...

Improving Health for Communities in Need

I recently came across the organization NextCourse in my travels on the web. As they say, San Francisco is indeed at the forefront of improvement and ever since Alice Waters started the Edible Schoolyards project in 1995, I have been very excited with what is going on down there. Next Course include ...

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy Training

In 2003, I began a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy training in New Zealand. I was a chef at the time, so this was entirely new for me. Prior to starting the training I spent about 3 years researching various healing modalities to make sure I put my hard-earned money into the right one for me. I kn ...

Kitchen Education Manifesto

I discovered this, written by a Shaker while I was studying at the Culinary Institute of America. One of the most fantastic aspects of that school is the huge library they have of culinary works from across the centuries. I was writing a paper on the Shakers. When I first read this I got goose bum ...

Ubuntu = No More Student Debt?

I consider myself extremely fortunate to be living in Vancouver, BC for many reasons, but one of the main ones is the extremely active Ubuntu group here. Some of you may have noticed in my last post about Ubuntu that after I installed the latest release called Karmic Koala, I immediately got a warni ...
