Chanterelle Dreams, Amanita Nightmares

We are having mushroom weather here in Vancouver, BC. I can’t see the mountains, the clouds are low and the rain is sporadic. We actually had a bit of a hard flurry for 20 minutes earlier, but for the past 4 days it has been a light drizzle on and off with clouds and an occasional patch of blue skys and sunlight every so often. This is also rainbow weather. The weather here is remarkably similar to the North Island of New Zealand and it was in this type of weather that I first discovered the mushrooms growing out of our carpet that were infesting our bodies. I have had a thing for mushrooms since I was a kid, in fact I remember discovering a morel under our house when I was around 9 or so. I was positive it was a morel, and we took it to our science teacher to get him to help ID the mushroom. Since we were in Papua New Guinea and there hadn’t been any previous discovery of morels in PNG, my teacher wouldn’t allow me to eat it. I remember being pretty annoyed about that as it looked exactly like a morel. It is true, as they say that mushrooms can look identical and be completely different in different regions of the world, so it is best to be cautious.
